CURRICULAR INNOVATIONS

Innovative Teaching & Learning Methodologies

  1. Our institution has effectively introduced innovative teaching and training modules, particularly within the framework of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME). One notable module is the Self-directed, Problem-oriented Lifelong-learning, Integrated Clinical Case Exercise (SPLICE), which is seamlessly integrated across all curriculum phases to promote active engagement and problem-solving skills among students.
  2. Additionally, game-based learning methodologies such as METAPAD (METAbolic PAthways Decoded) and CARBGAME (CARd & Board GAmes in Medical Education) have been adopted to enhance student comprehension of medical concepts through interactive gameplay.
  3. Narrative games like “Livogena: The Ikteros Curse,” “Aquilibria: The Battle to Balance,” and “Pancreata – The Keto Struggle” further immerse students in intricate medical scenarios, fostering clinical reasoning and problem-solving abilities in different topics. These educational innovations are supported by our active participation in educational research, with findings disseminated in reputable journals.
  4. Furthermore, the implementation of EMBRACE – Empowering Medical students’ skills in BReaking bAd news with Compassion and Empathy – and SCRIBE – an ePortfolio for Bioethics Education – has successfully facilitated the systematic collection of reflections and individual experiences, enriching our bioethics/AETCOM curriculum. Our steadfast dedication to evidence-informed educational practices ensures ongoing enhancement and contributes to the advancement of medical education.
  5. We have also integrated Museum Artsinto our curriculum to enhance learning experiences related to gender sensitivities, resilience, and empathy. Through this innovative approach, students engage with museum exhibits and artifacts to explore and understand these important topics in a deeper and more meaningful way, enriching their educational journey and professional development.
